An Important Message from CGPD

An Important Message From C.G.P.D.
Starting 6/7/2018 the Cottage Grove Police Department and South Lane Fire Department will be partnering together to help keep our youth safe by providing lights and helmets to people in need.

CGPD will be enforcing the lack of lighting and no helmet use effective 6/7/18.

Please notify your parents and staff of the up and coming new program that we are implementing. This program was created when one of our local youth was tragically killed in a bicycle accident. He was not wearing a helmet, wearing dark clothing and his bicycle was not equipped with proper lighting (front and rear reflector).

SLFD took the initiative with gathering donations and funds to purchase rechargeable USB front and rear lights for bicycles. CGPD is also equipped with several helmets ranging from 3-14 years of age.

If a child is observed without proper equipment by a police officer/community service officer then there is the chance the youth could be stopped. The youth's information will be obtained and a citation issued. That youth/parent will have 5 days from time of citation to bring the citation to either the police department or the fire department. They will then exchange the citation for the proper equipment. For example: A youth is cited for no helmet, they bring the yellow portion of citation to CGPD or SLFD in exchange for a helmet--CITATION WILL THEN BE CANCELLED OUT. New helmet, no citation.

Please take this information and pass along to your parents. Help me do our part by keeping our community safe.

Any information in regards to this please feel free to contact me.
