Weekly Update

October 1, 2026
Front of Lincoln Middle School

Lincoln Families,

September was a great month at Lincoln! It has been wonderful to see students settle into their routines, connect with one another, and get involved at school. We’re excited to see what October will bring.

We held our first MAP testing day this past Wednesday. Our second MAP testing day will be next Wednesday, when students will finish their fall testing. Thank you for helping your student arrive ready for the day.

Almost all of our language arts classes are working on their first essays of the year. Students are putting their ideas into words and building their writing skills, and we hope both you and your student feel proud of the progress they’re making.

We value working with families as partners in supporting our students. If you have a question, a concern, or something you’d like us to know about your student, please reach out. If there is anything we can do to help, we want to hear from you.

Thank you for being part of our Lincoln community!

Warmly,

Laura Clark
Principal

Over-the-counter medication update

If your student may need over-the-counter medication for any reason, please complete the Authorization for Medication Administration Form and return it to the office along with the medication in its original, manufacturer-labeled container.

Please note that we are no longer able to supply or maintain school-stocked over-the-counter medications. All medications must be provided by a parent or guardian and submitted to the office in accordance with the medication administration requirements. The option to self carry over-the-counter medications in their backpacks is available for students who qualify. Please call the office if you would like more information on this option.

If your student had an Authorization for Medication Administration Form on file from last year, a new, updated form must be completed and submitted for the current school year. Medication authorization forms are required each school year, not each fiscal year.

Lincoln Lap-a-Thon

Dear Lincoln Families,

During zero period on Tuesday, students began signing up for our lap-a-thon fundraiser. Many completed the process, while others will need a little help finishing at home. Since this is a new approach for our school, we appreciate your partnership as we learn what works best for our students and families.

Families are still welcome to contribute cash donations. The online option offers another way to participate, especially for friends and relatives who live outside Cottage Grove. Once your student is signed up, you or your student can share the fundraiser by email, text, social media, or a link or QR code.

All funds raised go to our parent club, which puts them right back into Lincoln. Your support helps make possible end-of-year field trips, other trips throughout the year, classroom food and prizes requested by teachers, and schoolwide resources such as water bottle fillers and cooking supplies. We are hoping to raise enough funds this year to purchase a new camera to help with our weekly updates and the photography in them!

The document below walks you through helping your student finish signing up and enter contacts. Once signed in, students can also select individual prizes they may earn by reaching contact or donation goals. We’ve added food and gift card prizes for advisory classes and individual students, too! Contacts entered for the fundraiser will not be shared or sold and will be used only for this fundraiser.

If you have a few minutes this week, please check in with your student, help them complete their sign-up, and begin entering contacts together. Whether you share the fundraiser, make a donation, or simply help your student get started, we’re grateful for your support.

Thank you for partnering with us to make more opportunities possible for Lincoln students!

Growing Together with Technology

As our students grow, so do their technology privileges and responsibilities — a great opportunity for families to grow together, too! Navigating technology as a family helps build trust, understanding, and healthy habits that serve students well now and in the future.

Each week, I'll be posting 3 questions for parents to consider discussing with their teens, opening the door for meaningful conversations about safe and responsible technology use.

Here are this weeks family questions:

  1. What's a cool or surprising fact about you that even some of your best friends might not know?
  2. If you hear a friend saying something that's a stereotype, what would be a good way to react? Share some ideas with your family on what you or grown-ups can do if you hear someone you know talking in stereotypes.
  3. Have you ever felt that someone had a stereotype about you or our family? How did that make you feel?
